Consultation

A dental consultation is the first step towards treatment. At this appointment a patient will find out what the problem is, the severity and treatment options as well as cost.

Laser gum surgery

When a patient is diagnosed with periodontal disease a common procedure today is laser gum surgery.  Laser gum surgery is designed to eliminate and sterilize the bacterially infected gum tissue.  It is usually accompanied with a bite adjustment and an occlusal splint to manage the mechanical forces due to the decreased bone support.  Laser gum surgery is generally conservative, minimally painful and minimal swelling.

Dental Implants

When a tooth is missing whether it be due to trauma, decay or Periodontal disease, a dental implant is most often the most optimal treatment choice. A dental implant is a titanium prosthetic placed within the jaw to allow a porcelain crown or denture attachment to be placed.

A dental implant is usually the optimal treatment to replace a missing tooth because it does not compromise the structures of the adjacent teeth such as a bridge. It is a single tooth solution for a single tooth problem. Any other prosthetics such as a removable partial denture or a bridge relies on the remaining teeth for stability. This added stress over time may cause the remaining teeth to be damaged.

Botox and Collagen Fillers

Botox and Collagen fillers are an effective way of reducing wrinkles and filling deeper folds of the face.  Treatments usually last up to 3-6 months.

Periodontal Surgery

Periodontics: Perio = Around and  Dontics = Teeth. Periodontal surgery is surgery around teeth. The reason for Periodontal surgery is often for periodontal disease which is one of the most prevalent diseases in North America.

Periodontal disease is the destruction of the support around teeth such as the bone, ligaments and gum tissue. This is caused by a bacterial infection and an inflammatory host response.

If left untreated, damage to the bone may be severe to the point of tooth loss. It is also now documented that bacteria from the mouth can travel systemically through the body and contribute to coronary artery disease.

When the bone is destroyed due to periodontal disease, a space is left behind between the

tooth and the gums. Bacteria begins to invade further and grow due to inaccessibility to clean.  Periodontal surgery is performed to remove the infection and provide the patient the accessibility to clean their mouth with standard hygiene tools such as, a toothbrush.

Gum grafting

Gum grafting is indicated when gingival recession occurs.  Depending on the location and severity of the gingival recession different types of soft tissue grafts may be indicated.
